IPM Accredit the 5th World Congress in London 2010

Tuesday, 1 June 2010

The 5th World Congress on Downtowns and Town Centres will be fully accredited for Continuing Professional Development by the Institute of Place Management. You will be able to bank the 1080 CPD points during the event itself!

CPD points help you to maintain or review your professional status and to carry the appropriate letters after your name. If you are not already an Associate, Member or Fellow of the Institute, your professional status can be assessed during the Congress itself if you bring your resume or CV with you.

ATCM Members will receive free membership assessment (worth £90) at the World Congress - please visit the IPM exhibition stand in the market place to discuss your membership.

The 5th World Congress is the first ever event to offer an integrated Introductory Certificate in Place Management from the Institute of Place Management (IPM).

The Introductory Certificate is worth 20 credits towards the 180 required for a Masters in Place Management offered through Distance Learning by Manchester Metropolitan University and the Institute of Place Management.

The Introductory Certificate has been designed around the World Congress main programme and all students will be required to register for and attend the World Congress itself. In addition, they will be required to register directly with the Institute of Place Management and attend a one-day lecture programme on Wednesday 16th June in central London, attend one ‘surgery’ session during the Congress proper, and submit a 3,000 word assignment after the programme which will be based on work in their own downtown, town or city centre.

The Introductory Certificate topic is “Global Scanning, Local Planning” and will examine key global trends that are affecting or will affect downtowns, town and city centres and then require you to research and assess their impact on your location and to propose appropriate responses. This will form the topic for your submitted assignment.

The Introductory Certificate programme will be led by Professor Cathy Parker and include contributions from other leading academics and practitioners.

The Learning Day will introduce you to methods for gathering intelligence and data, frameworks for the analysis of emerging trends and a variety of strategic responses appropriate to the development of places.

All delegates registering for the Introductory Certificate will be entitled to Distance Learning support during completion of their assignment and will also be automatically enrolled as an Associate of the Institute of Place Management for a 12 month period (you may be entitled to a higher level of membership but this will require assessment).

Registration for the Introductory Certificate costs £340 in addition to your World Congress fee. This includes all course content, delivery and assessment. Should you opt to continue your studies through enrolling for the full Masters programme, you will be entitled to a discount on the course fee.
