Space, place and social justice in education - An International SeminarFriday, 13 January 2012
Friday 13th July 2012
One day international seminar
Education and Social Research Institute
Manchester Metropolitan University, UK
Project Co-ordinator: Geoff Bright (ESRI, MMU)
Seminar Co-convener: Sue Bermingham (ESRI, MMU)
About the event
As the drive for uniformity in the European and global education project increasingly abuts against spatialities of deepening social injustice as well as widening and spatially novel forms of protest, questions of how we might deepen our interrogations of space, place and social justice with respect to education are of paramount importance.
This seminar, which is jointly sponsored by the Education and Social Research Institute (ESRI) at Manchester Metropolitan University, the European Education Research Association (EERA), the British Education Research Association (BERA) and the journal Ethnography and Education was generated initially from discussions between ethnographers and geographers of education and will bring together an audience from those sub disciplines of education research as well as a broader, multi-disciplinary, audience interested in exploring these issues. Participants will have an opportunity to hear internationally acclaimed keynote speakers whose work is concerned with these questions and to take part in dialogue and discussion around presented papers. Those offering papers will have their contributions considered for publication in a book-length edited collection to follow on from the event.
