
Graham Galpin Awarded Senior Fellowship of the Institute of Place Management

The Institute of Place Management is delighted to announce that Graham Galpin has been awarded Senior Fellowship, the Institute’s highest honour, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to place leadership, town centre regeneration, economic development, and public service.
Senior Fellows are appointed by unanimous decision of the IPM and serve as authoritative voices for the profession, helping to inform and support the work of the Institute. Graham joins a distinguished international network of Senior Fellows that includes leading academics, business leaders, policymakers, practitioners, community activists, and place-making experts from across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.
The Senior Fellowship community includes chief executives of Business Improvement Districts, internationally recognised researchers, government advisers, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and pioneers of place management. Collectively, they represent some of the most influential voices shaping the future of towns, cities, destinations, high streets, and communities around the world.

Throughout a career spanning more than three decades, Graham has demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting towns, high streets, local economies, and communities. His work has consistently focused on bringing together partners from across the public, private, and community sectors to deliver lasting change and improve the quality of places.. Beyond his local contributions, Graham has been a respected voice in national conversations on place management, devolution, economic development, and town centre renewal. He has worked extensively with public, private, and community sector partners, championing collaborative approaches to place leadership and advocating for the importance of local identity, partnership working, and long-term stewardship.
In recent years, Graham has become an active supporter of the Institute of Place Management, contributing to professional discussions, mentoring emerging place leaders, and helping to strengthen connections between research, policy, and practice. He has also played a leading role in supporting IPM’s growing work on devolution, helping to convene practitioners, policymakers, and researchers to explore how devolved governance arrangements can better support places and communities.
Presenting the award, IPM noted that Graham exemplifies the values that Senior Fellowship seeks to recognise: leadership, collaboration, innovation, and a lifelong commitment to improving places.

Senior Fellowship is the highest honour bestowed by the Institute of Place Management. It recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to place leadership, place management, place-making, place policy, or place research.
Senior Fellows are appointed by unanimous decision of the IPM and act as trusted advisers and ambassadors for the profession.
