Masterclass – Introduction to Place and Economic Development

Led by Professor Steve Millington

Wednesday 10th September | 11:00 – 15:00

__

Join Professor Steve Millington and MSc Place Management students for an introductory masterclass exploring contemporary challenges in place development.

Delivered by the IPM teaching team, the session will set out key theories and approaches to local and regional development in a global context. The session includes discussion of economic models, the production of place and site-specific place making.

As an introduction, the masterclass can prompt further reading and exploration of development themes relevant to your personal place practice, as well as giving an insight into study on IPM’s postgraduate programmes including the MSc Place Management.

Join us for a one-day online Masterclass exploring how place can drive inclusive and sustainable economic development. Delivered as part of the Postgraduate Diploma in Place Management and Leadership, this session is also open to practitioners and professionals outside the course who want to deepen their understanding of place-based transformation.

Led by Professor Steve Millington and featuring leading voices from across the UK, this Masterclass will spotlight real-world case studies from towns that are redefining local economic futures - including Wallsend, Grimsby, and West Bromwich - alongside a discussion on what does The Good Economy look like with IPM Senior Fellow and economist Mark Gregory (The Good Economy).

Who should attend?

  • Local authority officers and councillors
  • BID and town centre managers
  • Consultants and regeneration professionals
  • Academics, researchers and students interested in place-based growth
  • Anyone working in economic development, planning, or placemaking
