Institute of Place Management - Privacy Notice
The Institute of Place Management (IPM) is a professional network operated by Manchester Metropolitan University promoting positive impact and transformation through place-based research, education and knowledge exchange with a trusted and respected community of academics, students, practitioners, policy makers and local and central government.
This Privacy Notice explains how and why we collect and use personal information about you as a member of IPM, including what personal data is collected and held about you for, our purposes and lawful bases for processing, who we may share your personal data with, relevant retention periods, and how you can exercise your privacy rights.
Who we are
Throughout this notice, “University”, “we”, “our” and “us” refer to the Manchester Metropolitan University, an exempt charity under Schedule 2 to the Charities Act 1993 (amended by the Charities Act 2011). The University is the Data Controller in respect of the personal data you provide as part of your engagement with IPM.
The University is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Our ICO registration number is Z5710637. We manage personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the University’s Data Protection Policy.

As part of your membership, we do not disclose personal data about you to any third parties. Any possible disclosure will only be made with your consent or to comply with a legal obligation imposed on Manchester Metropolitan University.
Data retention
We retain your personal data for six years after cessation of membership, in line with standard professional body practice and our record-keeping policy. This retention period is triggered at the end date of the last active membership year.
