IPM showcased at the Houses of Parliament

On 15 May 2025, the Institute of Place Management was proud to represent our work at Manchester Metropolitan University’s first-ever Parliamentary Showcase, held at the Houses of Parliament. The event brought together MPs, peers, and policymakers with senior academics, researchers, and professional staff to highlight the University’s wide-ranging contributions to national priorities. We are thankful to the IPM members who visited us on the day to learn more about our work, and work from colleagues across the university.

Professor Steve Millington attended on behalf of the Institute, engaging with parliamentarians about the role of place management in driving regeneration, supporting local economies, and strengthening community resilience. Our presence ensured that the importance of place leadership and hyperlocal governance - central themes in the final High Streets Task Force report published ahead of the meeting - were front and centre in discussions with decision-makers.

The showcase highlighted Manchester Met’s £2.4 billion annual contribution to the UK economy, alongside its leadership in tackling inequalities, advancing sport science, and addressing global health and sustainability agendas. Representatives from across the University - including the Institute of Sport, School of Digital Arts, Degree Apprenticeships, and Institute of Children’s Futures - shared examples of how research and education at Manchester Met are driving regional and national impact.

The Institute of Place Management was pleased to be part of this landmark event, showcasing how place-based research and practice are contributing to more inclusive, sustainable futures for communities across the UK.
