Loughborough hosted its Town Deal Impact and Opportunity Business Lunch this week, bringing together partners, businesses and local leaders to look at the progress made so far. More than £50 million of investment has been delivered through the Town Deal, supported by £16.9 million in Government funding, and eleven projects are already making an impact locally. Graham Soult, a Fellow of the Institute of Place Management, closed the event with a reflective overview of how Loughborough’s developments sit within wider high street trends across the UK. He spoke about the improvements he’d seen on the ground — public realm changes around the Market Place, new activity in the town centre and occupancy levels that compare well with other places — and highlighted the importance of relationships, a mix of uses and support for independents. His talk was well received by the audience. [cannyinsights.com].

There were also updates from Martin Traynor OBE, Cllr Jewel Miah, Corrie Harris and local business owner Richard Naylor, who outlined how different Town Deal projects are contributing to skills, education, visitor attractions and wider regeneration. The event underlined how much of the progress in Loughborough has come through joint working and shared priorities. [charnwood.gov.uk]

Overall, it looked like a good event, and thank you to Graham for sharing his insights.
