An opportunity to join an established Business Improvement District in a great northern city with big plans for the future.

Wakefield has a plan for new development, including a new square outside its historic cathedral which has been shaped by expert input from the High Streets Task Force and the Landscape Institute. The BID is a big part of the city and its ongoing development, through its programme of events, services and strategic input to work across the area.

Wakefield Business Improvement District

Wakefield BID started in 2017 to bring in £1.5m of investment into the centre of the city and was successfully renewed into its second term in 2021.  The current term is 2022-2027.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Wakefield BID Board are looking to recruit a new Chief Executive to lead the BID and deliver its ambitious business plan.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for leading and growing a small team to deliver the objectives in the business plan with an investment of over £220k pa.  Working collaboratively, creating partnerships, and supporting the levy paying businesses, you will need to be nimble and adaptable to a variety of working environments.  A person with a passion for place, strong commitment, and a desire to bring people together for collective good would be ideal for this role.  The BID is still relatively new and there are many opportunities for a Chief Executive with flair and creativity to take Wakefield BID to the next level, creating new income steams and harnessing the enthusiasm of stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

  • An excellent communicator
  • Strong experience of managing and working to a board
  • Strong budget and project management skills
  • Ability to work flexibly to deliver the business plan.
  • Strong leader who can galvanise stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to develop staff and delegate effectively.
  • Strong management skills in instructing third parties who work on behalf of the BID.
  • A creative and thoughtful person, who plans well and is prepared to try new initiatives.
  • A leader not a follower who has a proven history of success.

 

Desirable

  • An understanding of operational issues in a city centre, e.g. Crime Partnerships, running events, health & safety.
  • An understanding of Wakefield, its history, and the current opportunities.
  • Previous experience of running a Business Improvement District or Place Partnership
  • Previous experience of running a renewal ballot
  • A professional BID or Place qualification
