2021 at the Institute of Place Management

IPM Members have been central to work at the Institute this year, as we and place managers everywhere have responded to the pandemic. We will build on this work in 2021, with our widest programme yet, at a time when professional support for towns and cities is vital.

IPM Biennial Conference: ‘Place Leadership in a Post-Pandemic World’
Our flagship event where place practitioners and academics gather, online and in-person

On 9th-10th September, we’ll be hosting our biennial conference. We are in the early stages of organising an in-person conference at Manchester Metropolitan University, with the opportunity for delegates to attend virtually.

There will be further announcements about our biennial event early in the new year. The working title for the conference is: Place Leadership in post-pandemic world.

IPM Research Seminars
A regular platform for our Members to present and learn from the latest research.

Our exciting elevator pitch format has always been a great opportunity for members to meet up, network and learn about new research and different perspectives in place management. In 2021 we will provide online streaming of each research seminar as well as hoping to return to a live, in-person audience in Manchester.

11th February - Remote only

15th April – Manchester and remote access

16th December (Christmas special) – Manchester and remote access

Additional special research seminars may be announced throughout the year. In 2020 we hosted two special editions to mark the releases of “The Routledge Handbook of Place” and “Rethinking Darkness: Cultures, Histories, Practices” which had input from IPM staff and members of the institute.
